V neck Hip length Cardigan Vest with Drop shoulder Sleeveless (inset) and crocheted edgings.
Woman's size 30 (36, 46) inches
YARN DESCRIPTION:
Fine acrylic boucle or similar (see GAUGE DATA); approx. 250g (400g, 500g) [10 oz, (14oz, 17oz)]
GAUGE DATA:
Body knitted by Bond on keyplate 3
Edgings crocheted on 4.5mm hook
Ribbing worked by hand on 4mm needles
Gauge (stocking st over 4 in = 10 cm): 16.0 st by 20.0 rows
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS (ins):
Chest: 34.2 (40.4, 49.9) ... with Moderate fit.
Ribbing width: 32.5 (38.6, 47.7)
Armhole: 14.1 (16.2, 18.3)
Back width: 12.9 (14.1, 16.5)
Front neck depth: 7.8 (9.1, 10.4)
Body length: 22.4 (27.8, 29.9)
Top neck width: 5.6 (6.5, 7.8)
Ribbing width: 15.5 (18.2, 21.1)
NOTE: At most, 72 (84, 102) needles are required to knit this garment.
BACK:
1. Cast on 72 (84, 102) sts in WY, using open edge method and keyplate 3. Knit
6 rows, ending COR. Change to MY.
2. Knit 76 (98, 104) rows. COR.
3. Armhole shaping. Cast off 4 (4, 5) sts at beg of next 2 rows. COR. Knit 10 (16, 24)
rows, while dec 1 st at each end of next and every following alternate
row. Total 88 (116, 130) rows with 54 (60, 68) sts remaining.
4. Knit a further 24 (24, 20) rows even. COR. Total 112 (140, 150) rows.
5. Back neck. Cast off center 24 (26, 32) sts. 15(17, 18) sts each side. Knit 6 rows with
WY.
FRONT: Cardigan right side worked first.
1. Cast on 37 (43, 52) sts in WY, using open edge method and keyplate 3. Knit
6rows, ending COR. Change to MY.
2. Knit 72 (94, 98) rows. COR.
3. Shape neck. Dec 1 st at neck edge (left end) next and every following
3rd row 12(13, 16) times more.
4. Armhole. (At row 76 [98, 104]). Dec for armhole at right end, as for back. Complete
neckline shaping until 15 (17, 18) sts remain. Knit 3 (6, 3) rows even. Total 112 (140, 150) rows.
5. Cut yarn, leaving a long end to graft shoulder. Knit 6 rows WY. Remove sts from machine.
6. Left cardigan front. Work as for right side, reversing shapings.
BACK RIBBING: NO RIBBING.
1. Pick up 72 (84, 102) sts. Cast off loosely.
FRONT RIBBINGS: NO RIBBING.
1. Pick up 37 (43, 52) sts. Cast off loosely.
SHOULDER SEAMS:
Graft shoulder seam(s) on 15 (17, 18) sts.
ARMHOLE RIBBING: NO RIBBING.
1. Pick up 74 (86, 100) sts. Cast off loosely.
BUTTON BAND:
1. Cast on 7 sts on size 4mm needles. Work in K1P1 ribbing for 25.7 (31.7, 34.6)
ins.
2. Check this length is sufficient, when slightly stretched, to go up cardigan
front, from bottom of front ribbing, to center of back of neck. Rib more
if necessary.
3. Cast off. Sew button band to left front for girls/women, right front
for boys/men.
4. Mark positions for 6 (7, 6) buttons, the first one 0.5 ins above the band bottom,
the last one where the V-neck shaping begins. The rest should be evenly
spaced between these two, approximately 2.8 (3.0, 3.8) ins apart.
Alternatively, the button band may be crocheted using a 4.5mm hook.
BUTTONHOLE BAND:
1. Work buttonhole band as for button band, working buttonholes at the
marked postions as follows.With the right side of work facing, rib 3 st,
cast off next 1 st, rib to end. Next row. Rib 3 st, cast on 1 st over cast
off st(s), rib to end.
2. Sew buttons at marked positions on the button band.
3. Sew buttonhole band to cardigan front, being careful to align buttonholes
with buttons.
Alternatively, the buttonhole band may be crocheted using a 4.5mm
hook.
FINISHING:
1. Sew side seams using invisible seam. Use backstitch to sew remaining
seams.
2. Crochet an edging around the sleeves and hem using a 4.5mm hook if desired.
3. Sew in all loose ends.
