Subject: [BOND] Christmas Stocking
Here is a stocking pattern my friend sent to me. But on the cuff it says to
knit 20 rows, I would at least double that as it makes a much nicer cuff.
And the body of the stocking says to knit 49 rows. Make at least 60 rows.
This is what my friend said to do and I have to agree with her. It does
look better. Also, if you have any questions, please post to the list.
Basic Christmas Stocking
Stocking Length: 13"
Materials: 3 oz. skein worsted weight yarn (4ply) 1 skein each white and
red.
Gauge: ISM Keyplate #3 16 sts and 22 rows = 4"
Note: Claw weights are helpful when knitting the heel and toe.
Leg & Cuff:
With waste yarn, Cast on 50 sts. Knit 6 rows. Break yarn. COR (Carriage
on the right)
With white Knit 20 rows
Using your 3 prong transfer tool, & moving from left to right, lift up the
sts of the first row of the main yarn
onto the respective needles, using a claw weight to hold down the sts. as
you go. There will be 2 sts in the
hook of each needle. This forms the hem.
Push all sts back against the bed beyond the open latches.
Push all needles back to Forward working position
Knit 1 row. Break yarn leaving a small amount of yarn to sew up the cuff.
With red, Knit 49 rows. COR. Break yarn
Heel
Push 25 needles on the left hand side of 0 up to hold position.
*Push 1 working needle on the carriage side(right hand side) up to hold
position. With white knit 1 row. COL
(Carriage on Left)
Push 1 working needle on the carriage side up to hold position. Knit 1 row
(COR)*
Repeat steps * - * using claw weights as knitting builds up until there
are only 12 needles in Working Position.
COR
Reverse teh heel shaping by pushing 1 needle on the opposite side of the
carriage back to forward working position on each row.
When all needles on the right hand side of 0 are in working position, break
yarn
Foot
Push the 25 needles still in hold postion back to forward working position
making sure all the latches are open.
With red Knit 30 rows.
Toe
Work the toe exactly like the heel.
With all needles in forward working position Knit 1 row. Break yarn,
leaving a long tail of yarn for sewing.
With waste yarn, Knit 6 rows. Break yarn.
Finishing
Bring the sts with the waste yarn attached together (toe) and graft the
main yarn sts. together. Sew side seam.

1 md Set of knitting needles, I
Yarn: worsted yarn 1 skein red
smaller amounts in green and in white
1. With waste yarn, cast on 50 stitches. Knit 6 rows waste yarn. Change
to white yarn and knit 26 rows stockinette. Hang first row of white back
on needles (now you should have 2 stitches on each needle.) Knit 1 more row
white. Reset the row counter to 0 and change to red yarn in carriage. Knit
52 rows, decreasing 1 stitch on each end after rows 18, 26, 34, 42(42
stitches remain on needles).
2. After row 52, put 11 stitches on each side onto waste yarn. Reset row
counter to 0. Continuing with red yarn, knit 18 rows for instep of
stocking. Remove red yarn from carriage without cutting.
3. Thread carriage with green yarn for toe. With machine set to hold
stitches on needles in forward position, short row down to 6 center
stitches by placing 1 needle on carriage side in forward position at the
start of each row until 6 stitches remain. Now complete shaping by
returning 1 needle at a time to knit position on the side opposite the
carriage at the start of each row.
4. After toe has been completed, cut green yarn and rethread carriage with
red yarn. Reset row counter to 0 and knit 18 rows for underside of foot.
Cut red yarn, leaving enough length to weave heel to back of ankle.
5. Thread carriage with green and shape heel the same way you shaped the
toe. Remove stocking on at least 6 rows of contrast color scrap yarn.
Finishing: Seam hem and center back of stocking, making sure to catch the
2 open stitches from scrap yarn above instep. Weave heel to stocking and
seam sides of foot. Make sure you remove all waste yarn when your done.
You can use duplicate stitch to embroider name of to stocking. I haven't
tried this one by hand but it could be done by hand for you hand knitters
by using stitch holders in step 2.

Machine Knit Christmas Stocking
Materials-
3 Skeins Caron Christmas Glitter Acrylic
Gauge: 16 sts x 24 rows = 4 inches with keyplate # dot 3
Instructions:
Using a closed edge cast on CO 58 sts ....COR....K 14 R....Drop and
latch up every other
row to from a K1 P1 rib........K 60 R...COR .........HEEL-Push all
needles to LHS of 0 up to HP....Push 1 needle on carriageside to
HP.....K 1 R...COL....Push 1 needle on carraige side to HP...K 1
R....COR....Repeat this until only 9 needles remain in
WP....Reverse the shaping by pushing 1 needle on the opposite side of
the caraige to FWP on each row until all needles on the RHS of 0 are in
WP...COR...( note it is extremely helpful to use claw weights when
shaping the heels and toes )....Push needles on LHS back to FWP...K 1 R
slowly....Make sure all latches are open before you do this or you will
drop stitches ...........K 30 R straight.........TOE- Repeat as for
heel...Cast off onto WY.....
Finishing-Bring the sts with the WY attached together and graft the MY
sts together....Sew the side seam.... Make a Chain stitch cord or a cord
on the Magic Cord Machine if you have one and sew to the top of the
stocking to hang it by........These should be quick and easy to do for
gifts next year...........
