Subject: [BOND] Walker bag- October Pattern Gift & Ideas

These are the basic directions for the walker bag done on the Bond or ISM.
I think this would prove ever so practical for a nursing home or actually
for anyone confined to a walker etc. I will give the basic idea and plan
to have a real good pattern up on my homepage before Christmas. Dear hubby
has bought me a scanner as a birthday gift. Who could ask for anything
more. Little dream maker that he is.

Using a worsted weight yarn and keyplate 3 cast on 50 stitches, and using
your choice of pattern, the first one I would make plain to get the feeling
of the bag, knit even for 60 rows. Cast off.

	Make another one the same.

Using the two pieces knit and seam at the same time one one side only, by
casting on a total of 12 stitches and knitting and joining one side of the
square as you go along, knit enough rows to go across the bottom and the
same number to knit up the side, you are now forming gussets.

Seam the other section together so that you have a front, back and a 12
stitch gusset going down one side across the bottom and up the other side.

Take plastic canvas and make a liner to fit the same so that it is boxed.
Cut the canvas so that it is the same width and height as the gussets as
well as the front and back, whip stitch together. Make a line for this if
desired, so that small things do not slip through, also at this time make a
small velcro pocket for house keys or imporant little things one must carry.

Knit a band that is the total wide of the back panel and knit straight for
at least 15 rows, cast off loosely. Attach velcro to the inner section of
the flap and the front of the walker bag, so that when it goes over the
front rail on the walker it can be velcroed on. You can chose to add
decorative buttons on the front if desired. I also would add two tie cords
to each bottom corner to secure it to the side rails on the walker and keep
it from flapping in the breeze as you walk along.

If you decide to knit this for a new mom, make it so that it fits over the
back of a stroller, for a person in a wheelchair, make sure that you have
side straps of strong material such as welting cord so that it does not
come off the back.

I am also going to make one that is much slimmer and smaller to put on the
inside handle of my wheelchair so that I don't have to carry my wallet and
keys on my backpack, would not want to be a victim of someone elses' thievery.

If you decide that you like the pattern, then proceed to do beautiful
fairisle, fancy stitch, cable stitch etc., and make it so that it fits just
where you want it. This also makes a wonderful little bag as a gift bag
for someone who has eveything.

Thanks Marjorie for asking for the pattern. I am a wheelchair user and
know how wonderful someone will feel when they receive same.
