Subject: [BOND] V-Neck Pullover Basic Pattern
Sizes - Small - Medium - Large.
Finish: 40 43 46
MATERIALS:-9 10 10 50 gram balls of sport weight yarn
Tension:- Keypalte # 2 = 20 stitches and 30 rows to 4 inches.
Back:-
Cast on 100 - 108 - 110 usig waste yarn.
Knit 6 rows waste yarn - COR
Change to main colour
Knit to row counter 99 - COL
Armholes:-
Cast off 4 stitches at begining of next two rows.
row counter- 101
Decrease one stitch at each side every other row 4 times.
row counter - 109 COL
Cast off onto waste yarn 24 - 28 - 32 stitches each side for shoulder.
Place remaining centre stitches on waste yarn -
Rehang and rib 24 rows in knit one, purl one rib.
Front:-
Work as for back to row counter 99
Cast off 4 stitches, leave next 46 - 50 - 54 stithces in working postion and
either remove onto waste yarn the other stitches.
Working on left side only decrease one stitch at armhole edge every other
row - 4 times and at the same time, decrease one stitch at neck edge on this
row and every following 3rd row. until 38-42-46 stitches remain.
Continue neck decreasing until 24 - 28 - 32 stitches remain. work 2 - 5 9
rows even.
Cast off on waste yarn.
Rehang the 46 - 50 - 54 stitches on the frame and repeat remembering to
reverse the shaping.
Rehang and work ribbing as above.
Sleeves:-
Cast on 44 - 48 - 52 stitches.
Knit 6 rows with waste yarn.
Change to main colour and work 2 rows.
Increase one stitch each side, and every following 5th row to - 76 - 80 - 84
stitches.
Increase one stitch each end every other row until 96 - 100 - 104 stitches.
Work 4 rows even.
Cast off 4 sttiches at the begnning of the next 12 rows, then cast off 10
stitches at the beginning of the next 4 rows. cast off remaing 8 - 12 - 16
stitches.
Rehang and work ribbing as above on 44 - 48 - 52 stitches.
Neckribbing:-
Rehang and join the left sleeve on the ISM.
With purl side facing place back nect stitches onto machine, then pick up 56
stitches from one side of neck and one stitch from centre, 56 stitches up
other side of neck - 93 stitches.
Knit for 10 rows and convert to rib.
Rehang for other side and repeat.omit the stitch at centre front.
Overlap centre front seams and tack down.

This is a very basic pattern open to a lot of detail.
If cables are desired after making the master sweater, I add 4 stitches for
each cable added.
If lace work is desired it is best to keep it away from the bust area, so I
place mine in from the side or centre it.
If a motif is desired, place it on the left or right hand side.
If fairisle is desired place it with the bottom section.
This is a great way to get away from the keyplate 3 yarns for a bit
and play with the sport yarns as they are very easy to knit with as well and
have a lot more room for design.
When increasing the size to larger and or smaller follow the guage
that you have attained and watch the increase in the cast on stitches, there
is normally not a lot of difference in the sleeve, and I like a roomy sleeve
so have a habit of always, where possible, knittng the sleeve in large as I
do not like fitted sleeves personally for me.
This could also be a gentlemans sweater by reversing the lap over at
the neck. If you have the shawl collar sweater pattern that I posted some
time ago this could be added for drama. I have knit mine with a shawl collar
and have contrasting collar and ribs done in donnegal tweed, only because it
was on sale and I could afford it at the time. I will scan a picture and
palce on the Bond Gallery as soon as dh gets my scanner for my upcoming
birthday...or before...wish me luck.
Also, if I were knitting this for a man, and or for a lady, to make
it a sweater with a difference, make a small pocket for the upper left and
or right land side, rib the top, and for ladies, cut a square of fancy lace
and tack t the inside to hang down in a "V" formation from the pocket, it is
real dramatice, for a gentleman, do a fold over pleat on a mans handkerchief
or some comparative fabric, and stitch to a piece of poster board, and
insert into the pocket, this way it is removable for washing.
