Bond Machine Knitting - Sweatshirt Pattern Idea

        I was thumbing through some of my craft magazines and saw a designer
sweater that I know opens up a multitude of possibilies to the ISM/Bond and
the creativity on the list.

        I was done in plain knit, it was a drop sleeved sweater that they
had taken to below the knee length, so there should be no shaping just
straight knitting, which leaves the back wide open for design, which I
personaly would keep to the bottom rather than the top....try a band about 6
inches deep of fairisle or miniature intarsia, then work the picot hem.

        The front is done in the same manner, with very little shaping
except at the neckline which is the basic round neck....there is no design
on the upper part....there is in the pattern that I saw....but I would take
the design and place it at the bottom as before.

        The sleeves were knit from the shoulders down with the cuff perhaps
holding the same design.

        Now, here comes the fun....I used to design the Newfoundland coats,
they were sewn with pure wool fabric and lined with water proof Canadian
Mist fabric and trimmed in rabbit fur..

        Using the above pattern as a guideline, make the whole garment in a
solid colour, personally grey tweed light is very functional.  Eliminate the
picot hem and add extra for just turn under, so I would work one row of purl
stitches before knitting the last 5 - 10 rows for turning under.

        Now the hand work, work a row of evenly spaced blanket stitch around
the bottom up front and on sleeve edges.  The top has a hood attached so you
would work the same around that.  Go back in with a white and work another
round of blanket stitches between the first ones except make them half the
size.  You will be using wooden toggle buttons on the front or a long zipper
so no allowance for bands is made.

        Now knit a square that is a large pocket size, once you have the
square start decreasing on one side until you have approximately 10 1- 12
stitches left.  Remove from the machine, and line, then work the buttonhole
stitches around this, also you can work a small intarsia design on the
pocket, Iused the eskimo and igloo and it was nice, done in only black and
white.

        I lined the jackets in grey and you could do the same for the knit
version.  I plan on making a few versions of this one this fall, when I get
in full production again.
