Date: Thu, 09 Jul 1998 14:31:49 -0700 From: Linda Boudreau (patrick.boudreau@ns.sympatico.ca) Subject: [BOND] Ragg Yarn Cardigan - Worsted Weight Wool Design - Basic raglan sleeved, longer length cardigan with single bands. Notes:- I have chosen to hand knit the bands of my sweater in twisted rib ( knit into the back of every knit stitch, purl stitches as they face you ). You may choose to use Keyplate 2 and latch up. Materials:- Worsted weight wool - I chose Mary Maxim Ragg Yarn - 26 ounces main colour 4 ounces of contrast colour. Keyplate # 3 - With tension of 18 stitches and 24 rows to four inches. Keyplate # 2 - Ribbing - 20 rows. Hand rib:- cdn needle 3.75 mm Full fashion fit with finished bust/chest measurement of 50 inches - length of 28 inches. Back;- Cast on 118 stitches and knit 6 rows in waste yarn. COR ( Carriage on right ) Knit a total of 90 rows. Armhole shaping - Cast off 5 stitches at the beginning of each of the next two rows. NOTE:- Decrease full fashion ( Remove last three stitches onto three prong transfer tool and move in one stitch, the third stitch in from the end will have two stitches on it, and one needle will be returned to the back of the needle bed, no longer in use ). You may also decrease normally by moving the last end stitch onto the next stitch and knitting across. Full fashion gives a more professional finish, in my humble opinion. Takes a bit more time, but well worth the effort. Continue to decrease every second row until 44 stitches remain on needle bed. Decrease on stitch each end of every row until 36 stitches remain. Total of 156 rows. Place these stitches on holder for back neck. Leaving hem in place rehang stitches and knit for 20 rows in main colour and last two rows in contrasting colour. Latch up and cast off in contrasting colour. - ------------------------------------------------------------------ Front:- Cast on 59 stitches in waste yarn and knit for 6 rows. Change to main colour yarn and knit for a total of 90 rows. (COR) Armhole:- Decrease as above for back armhole at right edge until 34 stitches remain. Shape Neckline:- COR - Thread left 10 stitches onto waste yarn and remove from needle bed. Keep continuity of armhole decreasing and at the same time decrease one stitch at neckline edge every row six times. 13 stitches remaining. Knit a further 17 rows keeping shaping at armhole, until 2 stitches remain. Cast off. Total rows 156 rows. Leave hem hanging, rehang and rib as above. repeat for Left side, working directions in reverse. - --------------------------------------------------------------------- Sleeves:- Using waste yarn cast on 48 stitches. Knit even for 6 rows. Change to main colour yarn. Knit 12 rows even. increase one stitch each end of next row and every 4th row until 88 stitches on needle bed. Row counter at 89. Knit a further 13 rows. Row Counter at 102. (COR) Cast off five stitches at the beginning of the next two rows. Decrease as above until 8 stitches remain. Cast off loosely Row counter - 168 Make another sleeve. Leave hem bar hanging, rehang and rib as above. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If doing all on the machine. Join all seams. Rehang as follows. Starting from the centre out. Rehang 18 stitches each side of '0" back neck stitches. 6 stitches each side for sleeves - 20 stitches from each side of neckline slope - 10 stitches from each side that are on stitch holder for front. Total of 108 stitches. Work the first row by hand after you have rehung the weighted hem. Knit a further 8 rows main colour. knit 2 rows contrasting colour. Latch up and cast off in contrasting colour. - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Front bands. Ladies right side first - Gentlemen - Left side first Pick up and rehang 120 stitches along front edge. Hang centre sttich on "0", hang two end stitches on "l" and 120 - pick up evenly in between. Knit first row manually by hand across. Knit 7 more rows main colour, Knit 2 rows contrasting colour Cast off loosely. Buttonhole side. Pick up as above allowing for 8 - 10 buttons your preference. Mark buttonhole spaces on band And count roughly between each how many rows. When you come to a dot ( I use the stationers dots for marking on my sweater and when I reach a red dot I do a lace hole for my buttonhole on each side. Take a stitch place it on stitch beside it, leave needle in working position and continue across. Repeat as for above. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I have just finished the first side and I was impressed with how it looked so felt confident in printing the rest of the design. Have fun and let me know how you make out. This would be gorgeous done in a yarn that has a colour all of its own like some of the Woolease sprinkles, Encore, heather tones, ragg yarns.
