Subject: [BOND] Hooded Sweatshirt Pullover -Cardigan with or without Pouch.
Hooded Adaptable Unisex Sweatshirt Pullover or Cardigan
This is an adaption of a sweater pattern that we have made for years at
our house and one we have used at knit clubs in the past for charity knits,
it knits up beautifully. I have just adjusted the sizes to suit a growing
10 - 14 year old.
Materials:-
20 ounces of worsted weight yarn in your choice of colour.
Keyplate # 3 main sweater pattern.
Keyplate # 2 ribbing of sweater.
Tension:- 18 stitches and 24 rows to 4 inches in keyplate # 3
Please note this is a roomy fitting hooded sweatshirt, as younger ones like
the feeling of lots of room. It finishes at 38 inches. Body finishes at 23
inches as a sweatshirt is normally longer than a dress sweater. The arms
finish at 21 inches. Adjust for personal use.
This also makes a lovely cardigan, by dividing the front stitches and the
front pouch and knitting the two sides seperately. Then following the
bottom ribbing you would rehang the front stitches and rib as desired for
either wooden buttons or a seperating zipper.
If handribbing use metric 4 mm or British size 8.
Back:-
Using waste yarn and Keyplate # 3
Cast on 90 stitches.
Knit 6 rows.
Change to Main colour
RC - 000
Knit to row counter - 70
Mark this as armhole edges.
Knit to row counter - 126
Remove centre 30 stitches to waste yarn.or cast off your choice.
Scrap off in waste yarn 30 stitches each side for shoulders to be seamed on
the Bond.
Ribbing:-
Rehang decreasing stitches to 82.
using Keyplate # 2
Knit even for 20 rows.
Convert to 1 x 1 or 2 x 1 rib.
Cast off loosely.
Front:-
Repeat as for back to armhole marking.
Knit even to row counter 104.
Shape neck:-
Cast off centre 16 stitches, this leaves 37 stitches on each side.
Working one side at a time decrease one stitch at neck edge ever row 7 times
until 30 stitches remain.
Knit a further 15 rows even. - row counter 126.
Leave a length of yarn for joining shoulder seams.
Scrap off with 6 rows of waste yarn.
Ribbing:-
Repeat as for front.
Sleevs:-
JOin shoulder seams by hand or on the bond. If doing so on the Bond, put
rehang the shoulders with right sides together. Push one set of stitches
bechind the latches, lay the other set of stitches in the latches, pull the
back stitches over the front and cast off.
Place 40 stitches each side of centre to holding position - total of 80 needles.
Start by hanging centre seam on "0" and hang each end at stitch 40 each side
using the markers as a guide. Carefully pick up and rehang stitches on the
machine.
Using Keyplate # 3 knit slowly across this row.
I prefer to hand pull the stitches for this one to make sure that all the
latches are open.
KNit to row couonter 10.
Decrease one stitch each end on next and every following 5th row for a total
of 17 times. or 44 stitches remain.
Knit to row couonter 108 without further decreasing.
Scrap off with 6 rows of waste yarn.
Ribbbing:-
Rehang with wrong side facing on 40 needles.
Use the small hem weight.
Using Keyplate # 2 knit for a total of 20 rows.
Convert to rib as above.
Hood:-
Cast on 142 stitches in waste yarn and knit for 6 rows with waste yarn.
Using Keyplate # 3 join Main Colour.
Work even for 12 rows. Mark each side as fold front band.
Knit a furhter 4 rows.
Decrease one stitch each side of next and every following 3rd row for a
total of 15 times or until 110 stitches remain.
Knit to row counter 52 - excluding front band.
Cast off loosely.
Sew back seam of hood. Sew bottom of hood to necklin, easing to fit. Make
adraw cord of twisted yarns and insert in the fold over band.. Make fold
over band by seaming the marked rows to the main portion of the hood.
Make a twisted cord, by measuring 3 lengths of yarn at least 6 times as long
as the cord you want. Tie one end to a secure object, such as cupboard
door,. Put a pencil through the other end and wind tightly until it starts
to turn on itself. Carefully remove from door, and holding both ends
securely allow it to curl back on itself. Knot off ends.
Good luck.
If a pouch is desired.
Knit the pouch first by casting on 2/3 of the amount of stitches for the
front. Knit even decreasing each side every fourth row to desired height,
usually 6 - 8 inches.
To knit this in as you go, hang it on the machine before you knit
the first row of the front of the sweater. Knit sweater front and then when
you have reached the number of rows for the pouch and the sweater, carefully
remove the centre stitches and rehang the front top then rehang the front
sweater and knit across, this way there is no seaming and it is knit in as
you go.

Child's Hooded Sweatshirt:-
Materials:- 10- 10-14-16 ounces of knitting worsted yarn - Berella
or Woolease is what we used.
Keyplate # 3 and # 2
Tension:- 18 x 24 = 4 inches
Sizes - Small (2) Medium (4) Large (6) Xlarge (8)
Back:-
Using closed edge cast on or crochet cast on - 48 - 54 - 60 - 66 needles.
Knit one row with Keyplate 3 -
Change to Keyplate 2.
Knit 12 - 14 - 16 - 18 rows.
Convert to rib.
Change to Keyplate 3
Knit even for desired length or 40 - 50 - 55 - 60 rows.
Cast off 2 stitches at the beginning of the next two rows.
Cast off one stitch each end every alternate row until 18 - and for large 20
stitches remain.
Knit one more row and take off on waste yarn
Knit 6 rows of waste yarn.
Fronts:-
Using closed edge cast on or crochet cast on - 24 - 27 - 29 - 31 needles.
Knit one row with keyplate 3
Change to keyplate 2
Knit 12 - 14 - 16 - 18 rows
Convert to rib
Change to keyplate 3
Knit even for desired length or 40 - 50 - 55 - 60 rows.
Cast off 2 stitches at the beginning of the next row.
Cast off one stich every alternate row until 18 - and 20 stiches remain.
Decrease 2 stitches at neck dedge and and then one stich every alternate row
t6 times.
Knit one more row and take off on waste yarn.
Knit 6 rows of waste yarn.
Left:- Same as above but reverse shapings.
Sleeves:-
Using closed edge method cast on 30 - 32 - 33 - 35 stithces.
Knit 12 - 14 - 14 - 18 rows
Convert to rib
Change to keyplate 3
Increase one stitche every 5th and 6th row until there are 40 - 46 - 40 - 43
stitches
Cast off two stitches at the beginning of the next two rows.
Decrease one stitch each end of every other row until there are 10 - 8 - 8 -
6 stitches.
Knit one row.
Take off on waste yarn.
Knit 6 rows of waste yarn.
Sew up ragln sleeves or knit hood later and attach.
Pick up 64 - 6 6 - 66 - 68 stitcheasround neck edge.
Using keyplate 3 knit for 8 rows.
Convert to rib.
Knit for 58 - 66 - 72 - 74 rows.
Take off on waste yarn.
Seam edges of hood together.
If doing a button band, DO NOT seam the hood at this time, but pick up
evening down the hood and front band of each side, and rib for 8 rows, make
sure you hand select the needles the first row, ( work each needle by hand )
so that you do not drop any stitches.
Mark for buttonholes and repeat for other side. When you reach the rows
that you have marked I find it easy to work on the 3rd row and work a lace
hole, for small buttons, just transfer one stitch to the opposite needle,
leave it in working position and knit across....MAKE SURE that you do this
for all of the button holes in the same row, and to put one at the ribbing
on the neckband.
Cast off loosely.
If wanting to insert a zipper this is my favourite way. Pick up and knit
the stitches as above, knit a further 4 rows, convert this row to knit
stitches, ( this is a fold over row ) or if desired knit it on a smaller
keyplate very slowly, or remove on garter bar and transfer stitches back on,
knit a further 4 rows, and cast off. Repeat for the other side. These
allows a closure for the zipper to be encased in.
If you crochet, work 3 rounds of single crochet evenly around the complete
edges and then insert a zipper. Make sure to put a zipper pull, make one
out of a charm for the little girls and a sports logo charm for the guys.
For little girls add a tassel to the back.
