Bond Machine Knitting - Basic Cardigan Pattern

Subject: [BOND] Drop Sleeved Sweater - 40

        This is a pattern I have on file, but have not knit as yet, but the
stitches are correct for the following:-
Measurements - Finished 44 inches.
Tension:- 4.5 x 6 rows on Keyplate 3 - Use Keypalte 2 for ribbing.

This is a drop sleeved cardigan.  Omit the sleeves and you have a vest.
Omit the buttonholes and knit as one piece and you have a pullover.

Simple Knit Basic Cardigan:-

Front:-

Using keyplate 3 and waste yarn cast on 50 stitches.
Knit to row counter 98
Place marker.
Knit to row counter 80
Neckline:- Bind off 4 stitches.
Bind off one stitch at the neck edge of the next three rows.
Knit to row counter 135

Make another the same reversing shaping.

Back:-

Cast on 100 stitches.
Knit to row counter 98
Place Marker for armhole
Knit to row counter 130
Place centre 18 stitches on waste yarn for later.
Bind off one stitch at neck edge each side of the next three rows.
Knit to row counter 135.

Sleeves:-

Cast on 42 stitches.
Increase one stitch each side every 5 rows to 82 stitches.
Knit even to row couonter 112.
Cast off loosely.

Ribbings:-

Rehang Back and decrease to 82 stitches.
Knit for 20 rows.
Ladder up.
Cast off Loosely.

Rehang front bands and decrease to 42 stitches.
Knit for 20 rows.
Ladder up.
Cast off loosely.

Rehang botton sleeves as is.
Knit for 20 rows.
Ladder Up.
Cast off loosely.

Front bands. 
Cast ofn 8 stitches.
Knit until desired length.
Mark position for buttonholes.
Make another piece the same.

I prefer to pick up evenly on circular needles and then transfer the
stitches to the main bed, then knit 10 rows.  I do this by hand, but it
could also be done by machine.
Knit the right side for ladies left side for men to place spots for buttonholes.

Neckband.  
Rehang back stitches starting with 18 stitches from back - 9 each side of
"0" pick up evenly along cardigan neckline edge to where you cast off 4
stitches, pick these up.
Knit 10 rows.
Convert to rib.
Cast off Loosely.

Enjoy.  I have not made this one as yet, but the possibilities are endless.
Omit the band at the bottom, add a picot edge and a side slit and you have a
gorgeous tun styled sweater.

Omit the ribbing at the neckline and work a crochet or cable band and attach
this to it.  Do the same for the cuffs.

If you want a vest with a facing knit an extra 6 - 8 stitches and put the
8th stitch in, in non working postion.  After the neckline is formed and the
panel is off the machine, turn to the back and slip stitch down.
