YARN DESCRIPTION:
Patons au naturel (Cotton/Wool/Linen mix, 50g = 102 yds / 93 m) or other approx. aran weight yarn (see GAUGE DATA); around 450g (500g, 700g) [16oz, (18oz, 25oz)]
GAUGE DATA:
Body knitted by Bond on keyplate 3
Edging crocheted on 4.5mm hook
Gauge (stocking st over 4 in = 10 cm): 16 stitches by 20 rows
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS (ins) :
Chest: 36.7 (42.1, 49.8) ... with Comfortable fit
Front neck width: 0.0
Armhole: 17.7 (19.1, 21.4)
Front neck depth: 8.8 (9.6, 10.7)
Body length: 26.0 (28.2, 30.1)
Top neck width: 6.1 (6.8, 7.9)
Sleeve bottom: 8.1 (9.0, 9.9)
Sleeve length: 17.8 (19.0, 19.3)
NOTE: At most, 76 (88, 102) needles are required to knit this garment.
BACK:
1. Cast on 76 (88, 102) sts in WY, using open edge method and keyplate
3. Knit 6 rows, ending COR. Change to MY.
2. Knit 84 (94, 98) rows.
3. Mark this row at both ends for armholes.
4. Knit 46 (48, 54) more rows. Total 130 (142, 152) rows.
5. Back neck. Thread centre 26 (28, 32) sts onto WY. 25 (30, 35) sts each
side. Knit 6 rows with WY.
FRONT:
1-2 Follow steps 1, 2 as for back. COR.
3. Armhole. Mark this row at both ends for armhole.
4. Work 2 (0, 0) rows - total 86 (94, 98) rows.
5. Divide for neck. 38 (44, 51) sts each side. Place LH needles in HP, to
work right neck.
6. Shape neck. Dec 1 st at neck edge next and every following 3rd row 12
(13, 15) times more, until 25 (30, 35) sts remain. Knit 7 (8, 8) rows even.
Total 130 (142, 152) rows.
7. Cut yarn, leaving a long end (to graft shoulder with). Knit 6 rows WY.
Place sts in HP.
8. Left neck. COL. Work as for right neck, reversing shapings.
BACK AND FRONT RIBBING: NO RIBBING.
1. Pick up 76 (88, 102) sts. Cast off loosely.
SHOULDER SEAMS:
Graft shoulder seams on 25 (30, 35) sts.
SLEEVES:
1. Sleeve is grafted onto the body of the sweater, and worked down to
the ribbing. Hang side edge of body between armhole markers on 70 (76,
84) needles, wrong side of work facing. Push sts back against the bed and
hang hem as usual.
2. Push needles to half-knit position, place COR with keyplate 3 and thread
up MY.
3. Knit first row very carefully. If very tight, or bulky yarn, you may
want to knit the first row by hand. Knit 13 (12, 9) more rows.
4. Dec 1 st each end of next row, then every following 4th row 16 (18,
20) times, until 36 (38, 42) sts remain.
5. Knit 12 (11, 8) more rows without decreases. Total 90 (96, 98) rows.
6. Cut main yarn. Knit 6 rows WY. Remove sts from machine.
SLEEVE RIBBING: NO RIBBING.
1. Pick up 36 (38, 42) sts. Cast off loosely.
FINISHING:
1. Sew side and sleeve seams using invisible seam. Use backstitch to
sew remaining seams.
2. Crochet an edging around the v-neck, sleeves and hem using a 4.5mm hook
if desired.
3. Sew in all loose ends.
